The City of St. Petersburg plans to shut down two of its three sewer treatment plants as Hurricane Milton barrels toward Florida’s west coast.
Why it matters: Most city residents will soon be unable to shower, flush toilets and wash clothes or dishes.
Zoom in: The city will power off the Northeast and Southwest waste facilities at 7pm to protect its employees from potential storm surge.
- Residents are encouraged to fill up water bottles in advance. Restoration of these services could take up to two days or more after Milton passes.
