M23 reinforces troops and equipment in various parts of Masisi and Walikale
Reports from eastern DRC indicate that the M23 rebel group is reinforcing its troops and military equipment in various of its strongholds, particularly in the territories of Masisi and Walikale.
Late last week, the group was observed increasing its military presence and logistics operations, according to local sources and security observers in the region.
In the Masisi area, specifically in the localities of Masisi–Nyabyondo–Kasopo and Nyabyondo–Kinyumba, numerous vehicles transporting troops and equipment were seen on Friday. Reliable sources report that, by evening, at least seven Kamaz trucks carrying soldiers arrived in the center of Nyabyondo, followed by four more trucks on Saturday.
Beyond Masisi, M23 also reportedly increased its troop deployments and military supplies in Kashebere and Kibati, located in Walikale Territory. Similar movements were seen in the Kalembe–Kalonge–Pinga corridor, where M23 allegedly held a meeting with residents of Kalembe and informed them of its intention to attack and seize the town of Pinga.
Pinga is a town located in Walikale Territory, approximately 150 kilometers northwest of Goma.
Additionally, sources confirm that M23 has been moving heavy weaponry into the Mpeti area, raising concerns about potential preparations for a new offensive.
